چکیده
RECT SPECTIt( )PHOTOMETRY of serum bihrubin implies the det ation of Serum brilirubin at or near its absorption maxiumuni at m l)y means of a spectrophotometer calibrated with bilirubin ndards, with a correction for the presence of hemolysis intmoed. A spectrophotomnetric method for hilirubin evaluation has three antages: 1. It serves as a check on methods that employ the van deli Bergh gent. 2. It overcomes the problem of hemolysis, which interferes with use of the van den Bergh reagent. 3. It may replace methods involving the van den Bergh reagent ause it is much simpler to perform, moi-e i-apid, and may very sibly be more accurate. Two closely i-elated methods for the direct spectrophotornetry of rubill were introduced by Shinowara (1) and by White et al. (2) use with a precision spectrophotometer. A variety of instruntation has been described (1-5). In this report it is demonted that a less sensitive instrument, the Coleman Junior Spectrotometer,* may also be used for the direct measurement of billin. METHODS AND MATERIALS

Transcutaneous bilirubinometry in preterm neonates.
This prospective study was conducted to evaluate the accuracy of transcutaneous bilirubinometry in preterm newborns less than 32 weeks of gestation. Serum bilirubin values measured by direct spectrophotometry were considered as standard, the range was 2.2-12.5 mg/dL. 32 jaundiced infants of less than 32 weeks of gestation without phototherapy, including 10 ELBW neonates, were enrolled. Close co...
متن کاملAccuracy of transcutaneous bilirubinometer estimates using BiliCheck in Thai neonates.
BACKGROUND Neonatal jaundice is the most frequently encountered diagnostic and therapeutic problem in the newborn. In the jaundiced infant, it is thought that the binding capacity of plasma albumin is exceeded, which allows free bilirubin to diffuse into and accumulate within extravascular tissues, such as the central nervous system. Affected newborns may develop kernicterus. The standard metho...
متن کاملUse of the caffeine reagent in direct spectrophotometry of bilirubin.
The molar absorptivity of unconjugated bilirubin in caffeine reagent is independent of the protein matrix. This finding, together with the simplicity of a dilution step for direct spectrophotometry, will improve the calibration methods of bilirubin and make them more nearly accurate. This is encouraging for the development of a new method for bilirubin determination in neonates; moreover, the c...
متن کاملEvaluation of Urinary Tract Infection in Newborns with Jaundice in South of Iran
Background: Neonatal jaundice is clinically presented in 60% of full-term newborns. About 8% of newborns with jaundice have urinary tract infection (UTI) without any other clinical signs in favor of UTI. In present study we evaluated clinical and paraclinical data that help to rapid and early diagnosis of UTI in apparently healthy newborns with jaundice. Methods: From February to August 2006, 5...
متن کاملبررسی فعالیت آنزیم آمینوپپتیداز(CD13) N در افرادی با تیتر بالای آنتیبادی ضدبروسلا
Background and Objective: Aminopeptidases remove the amino acids from the N-terminal of proteins and peptides. Aminopeptidase N (CD13) and leucine aminopeptidase are involved in processing and presentation of pathogens to immune cells. Also, enzyme activity in some viral infection and tumors are high. In this study, the activity of CD13 in serum with high level of brucella antibody wa...
